Purposeful Use of Technology
Our Strategic Plan in Action
Glastonbury Public Schools is committed to ensuring students use technology safely and with purpose. We are helping students to become responsible digital citizens. This work is aligned with GOALS 1 and 3 of our strategic plan: 1) Promote active learning and high expectations for all students; 3) Prioritize the health and well-being of students and staff.
Our current practices are the result of a careful examination of student use of technology and digital platforms.
Glastonbury Public Schools is partnering with families to help them support their children's safe use of technology at home.
The district created these elementary guidelines to promote active learning and prioritize student well-being.
Coming Soon!
6-12 iPad Guidelines
This work is under development. We expect to have it completed for the 2025-2026 school year.
GenAI
GenAI (Generative Artificial Intelligence) uses machine learning to create new content. We want to make sure students and staff use it in a way that’s ethical, responsible, and helpful. Our guidelines help students think critically, stay honest, and use AI as a learning tool, not a shortcut.
What Does This Mean for Students (Grades 6-12)?
Students can use AI, but only when allowed and for the right reasons.
The guidelines clearly explain what’s not acceptable, like copying work, spreading false information, or breaking privacy rules.
A poster with these rules will be in classrooms for students to review.
What Does This Mean for Staff (Grades K-12)?
Educators will model the right way to use AI and make sure it fits privacy and age rules.
Educators will check any AI tools they use to ensure they’re safe and appropriate.
Educators will be open with students about how and why they use AI in lessons.
What’s Next?
GenAI is changing fast. We’ll keep working with educators, families, and experts to make sure we use GenAI in ways that inspire learning, encourage growth, and support our students and staff.
