At the January 9th Board of Education meeting, the Board voted to adopt a $104.4 million education budget for the 2017-18 school year. This represents a 3.03% increase over the current year's budget. It is a status quo budget with increases driven by salaries and benefits. A total of 10 teaching positions are scheduled to be eliminated in response to declining student enrollment. The Superintendent and the Chairman of the Board of Education will present this budget at the Annual Town Meeting on January 30th (please note this change of date). The Board will then meet with the Board of Finance and the Town Council to discuss the education budget and the Town Council will vote on the final budget later in March.
