At the January 8th Board of Education meeting, the Board voted to adopt a $105,666,982 million education budget for the 2018-19 school year. This is an increase of 2.2% to the current operating budget, assuming that $2.5 million of state funding will soon be restored (as planned) to that current budget.

The 2.2% increase is attributable to employee salary, health insurance, and benefit increases and includes considerable savings (over $850,000) from the closing of Eastbury Elementary School and the elimination of 17 staff positions. There are no new initiatives in the budget.

The Superintendent and the Chairman of the Board of Education will present this budget at the Annual Town Meeting on January 29, 2018 at 7 pm in the Town Hall Town Council Chambers. The Board will then meet with the Board of Finance and the Town Council to discuss the education budget and the Town Council will vote on the final budget later in March. The Board welcomes and encourages citizen input on its budget.
