Air Conditioning Update—On October 24, 2017 the Glastonbury Town Council approved spending $600,000 to fund design specifications and electrical upgrades necessary for four of our elementary schools to be air conditioned. Nayaug Elementary School, along with Glastonbury High and Smith Middle Schools, are already air conditioned. Gideon Welles School requires further study. We look forward to the Town Council voting in the coming months to complete the funding to implement this project. When all of our schools are air conditioned, all of our students and staff members will be able to focus on teaching and learning every school day. We appreciate all the people—parents, teachers, students, and community members—who have taken time to support this project over the years.

Eastbury School Utilization—On September 25, 2017 the Board of Education voted on a plan for the utilization of the Eastbury School building for next school year when the Eastbury Elementary School closes. In the fall of 2018 the LINKS Academy, including post-graduate students, and the district's preschool program will be located at the Eastbury building. The district's Pupil Services/Special Education offices will also move to Eastbury. There are numerous educational and financial benefits to centralizing these programs and providing room for them to expand. In addition, the building will house a weight room for athletics training of students across the district. Details of the plan are available in the Board's Eastbury School Utilization report. The Board will continue to discuss the use of this facility during their meetings throughout the year as the plan is further refined.
