Glastonbury, incorporated in 1693, is located in central Connecticut, several miles south of Hartford on the east side of the Connecticut River.
One of Glastonbury's most successful industries was the J. B. Williams Company, soap manufacturers, established in 1849. The company was sold and moved out of state in 1957. The most sophisticated structure in the brick factory complex is the company office building, c. 1910, at 232 Williams Street which was purchased by the town and now serves as offices for the Glastonbury Board of Education.
